Chaos in Bihar assembly over assault on BJP MLAs Wednesday, December 8 2004 21:15 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Patna:
The entire day's proceedings of the Bihar Assembly were drowned in a din over assault on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs in their bid to force their way into the legislature complex on bullock carts with the House being adjourned four times amid unruly scenes by the Opposition.
No listed business could be taken up by the House before it adjourned sine die, two days before schedule.
After witnessing noisy scenes on the issue during the pre-lunch session marked by two adjournments, when the House re-assembled for probably the last sitting of the 12th Vidhan Sabha which will stand dissolved on March 6, BJP legislative party leader Ashvini Kumar Chaubey demanded immediate
suspension of police and administrative officials responsible for the incident.
Taking a serious note of the incident, Speaker Sadanand Singh announced inquiries by State Chief Secretary K A H Subramanian and secretary of the Assembly J P Paul into the entire episode.
Two BJP MLAs, including Chaubey were injured in a scuffle with the police when they tried to force their way into the complex housing Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad in a convoy of 10 bullock carts to protest against soaring prices and alleged decline in law and order.
Chaubey claimed to have broken a tooth and fractured a hand in the scuffle, while another party MLA Dilip Verma too received bruises and their clothes got torn.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramchandra Purve contested Chaubey's allegation, saying the police used force against some outsiders accompanying BJP legislators and not the MLAs.
