Karnataka to seek Rs 1500 cr assistance from WB Thursday, December 9 2004 16:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Bangalore:
Karnataka Government has decided to seek Rs 1500 crore-loan assistance from World Bank for upgradation of roads in all the 27 districts, Minister for Public Works and Energy H D Revanna said today (Dec 8, 2004).
The Government proposed to take up upgradation of 1500 kms stretch of roads, he told reporters in Bangalore.
Revanna said the proposal seeking the World Bank loan would be ready in about a month's time and submitted immediately thereafter.
Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would soon chair a meeting to discuss the menace of overloading of trucks, which has been causing damage to roads, he said adding that it would be attended by Transport Minister M Mallikarjun Kharge and himself.
Though the Government had set a month's deadline for the truck operators to desist from overloading, there was no considerable improvement in the situation, despite the authorities initiating action against violators in some districts including Mandya, Bagalkot, Belguam, Tumkur, Hassan, Mangalore and Koppal.
Revanna said the on-going work on the four-lane Bangalore-Mysore road was under progress and the first lane would be thrown open to traffic by March end next and the second lane would be ready by June.
He said the expert committee constituted under the chairmanship of K C Reddy to go into whether any violations have taken place in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project was expected to submit its findings in a week.
