Ultras target Pulwama again, 2 policemen killed Thursday, December 9 2004 21:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time

In the second major strike in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir within a week, militants today (Dec 9, 2004) killed two policemen and injured five including a Deputy Superintendent of Police when they attacked a camp of Special Operations Group of local police in Srinagar.
A group of heavily-armed militants fired indiscriminately on the police personnel when they were entering into a building to establish a camp at Imam Sahib near Shopian, 55 kms from here, around 4.15 hrs (IST), an official spokesman said.
The police personnel fired back and in the ensuing gunbattle lasting for nearly an hour, seven police personnel including the in charge of the camp, DySP Javid Iqbal, were injured, he said.
Two of the injured identified as constables Dilair Singh and Jehangir Ahmad succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital, the spokesman said.
He said the DySP and two other policemen were brought to Srinagar for specialised treatment as their condition was stated to be serious.
The building was recently taken over by police for setting up of the camp to check the growing activities of militants in the area, official sources said.
They said militants fled the scene and a hunt has been launched to nab them.
On the night of December 4, militants in Pulwama had triggered an IED blast blowing up an Army patrol vehicle killing 10 soldiers including a major.
