Ranchi: A man and his newly married wife were today (Dec 9, 2004) paraded naked for daring to tie the knot last week without the consent of their parents in a village in Khunti subdivision of Jharkhand, according to DGP control room sources.

The punishment was given after elders of Manothan village called a 'social meeting', which objected to the marriage of Bishun and Gyana Kumari, the sources said.

The couple were declared 'ostracised' at the meeting and then paraded naked, the sources said.

The police after receiving information rescued them near the Manta river bank.

Four elders, Bhadrav Pahan, Birsa Pahan, Somar Pahan and B Pahan were arrested, the sources said.
