Advani warns partymen against 'Congressisation' Sunday, December 12 2004 12:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time
New Delhi:
Beset with internal problems especially among its second-rung rung leaders, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president L K Advani today (Dec 12, 2004) cautioned partymen against what he called "Congressisation" of the organisation and asked them to uphold moral values and standards in politics.
"Log bolte hain ki BJP ka Congressikaran ho raha hai, kyonki giravat ka standard usiko mana jata tha (People say BJP is getting Congressised as the standard of decline in values set by that party was considered to be the lowest benchmark)," he told a two-day national executive of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in New Delhi.
"Congress is known for its infighting, groupism, sycophancy and things like that and people say now a days this happens in BJP also," he said, adding this might have been one of the reasons for party's defeat in the last Lok Sabha elections.
"We came to power because the electorate thought we are trustworthy. We were different from others as the moral standard of others had hit rock bottom. But after the 2004 elections, I feel one reason for our failure was that people may have thought that we started looking like others," he said.
Cautioning partymen against fighting for positions, Advani said he disagreed with the way Yuva Morcha asked for representation for youths during elections. "This is not the way in which I will like the Yuva Morcha to think," he said.
Asserting that BJP's future was with the second-generation leadership, he told the gathering that "it is your duty to see that the image of the ugly Indian politician is changed."
