1,300 Kgs of explosives found in Haryana village Sunday, December 12 2004 09:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Panipat (Haryana):
Atleast 1,300 Kgs of explosives, including rockets, grenades and cartridges, were found scattered in the fields in Manana village near Samalkha, police said today (Dec 11, 2004).
The explosives, found by villagers last evening, were being examined by a bomb disposal squad, they said adding the team had established that the explosives were not live.
There are about 100 iron foundry industries in Samalkha town and it is being suspected that any one of the unit might have received the explosives along with raw material supplies, and under the fear of action, may have dumped in the fields.
Police have launched an investigation.
Some villagers who noticed the explosives packed in a dozen bags in the field of farmer Ajit Singh informed the police who took the bags into custody.
Preliminary investigations by the police also indicate that the stock might have been received in any foundry unit, and instead of informing the police, the concerned unit owner would have preferred to dispose off in the fields.
