Lots of evidence against Godman Chandraswamy: CBI
Monday, December 13 2004 16:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time

New Delhi: The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) today (Dec 13, 2004) told a Delhi Court that it has collected "lots of evidence" against self-styled Godman Chandraswamy in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

"Lots of evidence has been collected against the suspect," CBI counsel Mohd Shakeel told Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ravinder Dudeja.

The counsel, who was present along with chief investigating officer B N Mishra of the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA), which is probing the assassination case, told the Court that the agency was in the possession of some evidence, which it wanted to show to the Court.

Mishra requested the Court to see the documents collected as evidence in-camera to ensure their confidentiality, following which the ACMM directed the officer to send them inside the chamber.

Chandraswamy, who is facing FERA violation charges, has sought permission from the Court to go abroad for two months. However, both the Enforcement Directorate, which has charged him, and CBI opposed the plea.
