Godhra inquiry commission to visit incident spot

Godhra: The two-member Godhra riot enquiry commission arrived in Godhra this morning (Dec 13, 2004) to visit the incident spot, police sources said.

The commission comprising Justice (retd) G T Nanavati and Justice K G Shah along with four lawyers would visit the Godhra railway station and S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express during its one-day visit, sources said.

This would be commissions third visit to the town and to the incident spot after it was set-up following the burning of S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002 in which 59 Karsevaks were killed.

The four advocates representing the State Government had already visited the incident spot and the coach yesterday (Dec 12, 2004) along with senior Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials that is probing the case.

The commission visit assumes significance after the recent second visit by the U C Bannerji Committee appointed by Railway Ministry to probe the technical aspect of fire inside the coach.
