Best Bakery: Deshmukh assures protection to Judge Tuesday, December 14 2004 16:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Nagpur:
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today (Dec 14, 2004) assured the Assembly that the Government will initiate adequate measures to provide security to Special Judge, Abhay Thipsay, hearing the Best Bakery case, who has received threatening mails and all the 17 accused lodged in the jail in Mumbai.
Raising the issue during adjournment motion, Opposition leader in lower house, Narayan Rane, said that Thipsay, who is judge at the special court, has been threatened. When the DF (Democratic Front) Government was boasting of complete control over law and order situation, the judges are receiving threats, he said.
Leader of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) legislative party, Gopinath Munde joined Rane in taking the Government to task, and said when the Supreme Court shifted the Best Bakery case to Maharashtra, the DF Government had assured all necessary protection to all the accused and witnesses.
He said it is not the question of Judge alone but 17 accused persons lodged in Arthur Road jail in Mumbai. Chief Minister should convene a meeting to review the security measures initiated by the Government in view of the fresh threats, Munde demanded.
