Blast at Khan's concert not an act of 'terror': SL Tuesday, December 14 2004 19:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Colombo:
Sri Lanka today (Dec 14, 2004) said the blast at Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's concert in Colombo was not a terrorist act as described by India but was result of a "local problem" and "security lapses".
"Last Saturday's incident is not a terrorist act. It is to do with a local problem. I don't think it will be repeated," Sri Lankan Tourism Ministry Secretary Prathap Ramanujam told reporters.
"We have seen several (security) lapses at the concert," he said.
The Tourism Secretary's remarks came after the Indian Government described the grenade attack as an act of "terrorism" and that New Delhi was awaiting Colombo's investigation report.
Two persons died and several others, including the wife of former cricketer Ravi Shastri, were injured in the blast. However, other Indian stars were unharmed in the attack which took place while India's top diplomat here, Nirupama Rao, was in the audience.
An Indian woman organiser of the show was also injured in the incident.
