Evolve code of conduct for coalitions: S M Krishna Tuesday, December 14 2004 12:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Mumbai:
There is a need to evolve a code of conduct for participating partners in coalition Governments to bring about greater efficiency and cohesiveness in the State administration, Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna said in Mumbai yesterday (Dec 13, 2004).
Interacting with journalists for the first time after taking over as the Governor, Krishna said that the coalition Governments are here to stay and a code of conduct was necessary to provide guidelines to keep a check on the omissions and commissions of the participating partners.
Stating that he supported the suggestion of developing Mumbai into an international city like Shanghai, he said that the Prime Minister had a special place for Mumbai in his heart and therefore mooted this idea.
Shanghai was developing at a fast pace and was turning into a manufacturing hub while India was good in providing services, Krishna said adding that a combination of the two would make them competitive in the world and called upon the media to play an active role in this regard.
Asked whether he would play a pro-active role like his predecessor, Krishna said he would function within the framework of the Constitution.
The Governor said that he loved Carnatic and Hindustani classical music and even all other types of music. He said that he would welcome the idea of holding music concerts in Raj Bhavan instead of fashion shows or film mahurats held in the past.
About his new role as the Governor, Krishna said he would focus on city's development and had decided to call a meeting with 'Bombay First', an NGO, to understand the city's problems.
