No response from Pak on extradition treaty: Govt

New Delhi: India today (Dec 16, 2004) expressed concern in the Rajya Sabha that despite several requests, Pakistan has so far not responded positively to its suggestion for an extradition treaty.

"India has suggested to Pakistan that the two countries enter into an extradition treaty. However, Pakistan has not responded positively to the proposal so far," Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said during Question Hour.

Responding to supplementaries as to what New Delhi was doing to persuade Islamabad, he said that India could only request Pakistan to enter into an extradition treaty.

He said that New Delhi has made the request several times after the Mumbai blasts, hijacking of Indian Airlines plane to Kandahar and terrorist attack on Parliament, but there has been no response from Islamabad.
