MMS case: Baazee outraged over police opposition Saturday, December 18 2004 22:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time
New Delhi:
On-line auction site Baazee.com today (Dec 18, 2004) expressed outrage over Delhi police's objection to the release of its country manager Avnish Bajaj who was arrested yesterday in connection with the DPS MMS scandal case.
"We are outraged that the police have objected to the release of Avnish Bajaj, the country manager of Baazee.com - an eBay company - in connection with the sale of an MMS clip by a third party on the website," Baazee.com said in a faxed statement.
"This position advocated by the police is shocking especially as Bajaj has been working closely with and fully cooperating with the Delhi Police since they contacted us on December 9. In fact Bajaj went to Delhi from our Mumbai office in good faith to ensure that we could aid the police in every way," the statement said.
"Baazee.com is an online marketplace offering buyers and sellers an opportunity to transact...In this case a seller put up a prohibited item which contravenes our user agreement. We took the specific item off the site as soon as we were notified", it said.
"It is distressing that the police have chosen to misdirect their energies towards the baseless charges against Bajaj and turn a blind eye to the thousands of other sellers in Delhi and other places where these and other clips are being sold in shops," the statement added.
