Saturday, December 18 2004 22:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time

Mumbai: Sehrunissa Sheikh, mother of prime witness Zaheera Sheikh in the Best Bakery carnage, today (Dec 18, 2004) denied prosecution's claim that she is currently staying in a farmhouse owned by a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA from Gujarat.

Sehrunissa said she did not know with whom she has been staying and said that Zaheera has made the arrangements for the current stay.

The prosecution asked her whether she was staying in a farmhouse owned by Upendrasinh Gohil, a BJP MLA from Savli in Vadodara, but Sehrunissa completely denied knowing the person or staying there.

She also went back on a statement given yesterday that that she and her family had changed their testimonies in Vadodara court.

She told the court that her statement given in Vadodara was correct and added that she had no idea what she had said yesterday.

Sehrunissa also claimed that Nafitullah had received burn injuries prior to the riots. She said she had dropped hot tea on him accidentally.

She, however, did admit that Nafitullah and Nasibullah had received injuries in the riot but said that she did not know how Nafitullah received injury on his neck.

Sehrunissa said that she first saw her daughter Sabeera's body in the hospital and said that though her body had shrunk due to heat, the clothes on her body were intact.

She also said that she did not give any statement to Vadodara police.
