Indian actors, films loved in Pak: Pakistani star
Saturday, December 18 2004 10:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time

Mumbai: "Indian films and actors are highly appreciated and loved in Pakistan and we dream of a day when artistes from both countries could work together in a film co-produced by the two countries," according to Pakistani cine star, Meera.

"Indian films are watched in Pakistan and Pakistani audiences love Indian stars," Meera announced at an Indo-Pakistan award show in Mumbai. Hoping that the political situation in both countries would improve and soon lead to a point when Indian and Pakistani artists could perform together, she said, "India has many talented artistes. I myself have my own favourites. A director like Mahesh Bhatt is perceived as among the most intellectual directors in Pakistan."

On her coming to India, she said, "It has always been my dream to interact with stars here and perform together. The award function to be held in Dubai is one of my dreams coming true."

She also hoped that a day would arrive when Indian films would be legally screened in Pakistan and vice versa. "We are also hoping for a day when artistes from either side of the border could work together."

Talking about difference in Pakistani and Indian films, Meera said, "I think basically, we share the same language and culture, hence there is not much of a difference. But yes, maybe, we do not use the form of dance, which is considered more a taboo there, as much as you do."

"Also your films have big budgets with lots of big sets, while ours are more low budget films. The treatment also is slightly different," she added.
