US 'very closely' following DPS MMS scandal case Saturday, December 18 2004 21:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time
New Delhi:
The US is "very closely" following the DPS MMS scandal case in which Baazee.com CEO and Indian-born US citizen Avnish Bajaj was today (Dec 18, 2004) sent to jail for six days by a Delhi court.
"Consistent with normal US consular practices, the (court) hearing today was attended by a US consular official," an American Embassy spokesman told reporters.
"The US Embassy is following this case very closely and there is high level interest in Washington regarding it," he said.
He was asked whether the US Ambassador in New Delhi David Mulford would take up the issue with the Government since Bajaj is now an American citizen.
Police claimed that Baazee.com listed the DPS MMS clip on its site under the title 'DPS Girl Having Fun' for sale on November 24 and that the CEO did not make any effort to remove it until prodded.
Bajaj had sought his release on bail on the ground that he had been co-operating with the police in the investigation of the case and had flown in from Mumbai to assist the probe.
