Coalition Govt not being 'hijacked' by JDS: Dharam Sunday, December 19 2004 17:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Bangalore:
Dismissing suggestions that the coalition Government headed by him was being 'hijacked' by the Congress' ruling partner JDS (Janata Dal Secular), Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh today (Dec 19, 2004) said that it was difficult to appease everybody and running a coalition Government was a tough task.
"Nobody can hijack my Government. I have over 30 years experience in politics," Singh told reporters in Bangalore on the sidelines of the Global Meet of Kashmiri Pandits.
"We can't appease everybody," Singh said, reacting to allegations of former Minister D K Shivakumar, perceived as a trusted lieutenant of former Chief Minister S M Krishna, now the Governor of Maharashtra, that his Government had been hijacked by JDS headed by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.
A strong ministerial aspirant, the high-profile Shivakumar, who has been unsparing in attacking Gowda, was left out of the ministry, reportedly due to strong opposition to his induction by the JDS.
"It is very difficult to run a coalition Government," Dharam Singh said.
Asked when the remaining two ministerial berths would be filled, Singh said he would finalise it with the party high command during his trip to New Delhi soon.
After prolonged suspense, Singh had expanded his ministry on December 15, inducting 20 ministers -- 11 from JDS and nine from the Congress, which has to fill up its quota of two more ministerial berths.
