Kancheepuram:
The special police team probing the Sankararaman murder, interrogated Appu, a key accused in the case, for the second day today (Dec 21, 2004) also.
The first class judicial Magistrate court in Kancheepuram yesterday (Dec 20, 2004) had ordered three days police custody for Appu, who was arrested on December 19, following a request by the investigation team. The court allowed Appu to meet his lawyer everyday in the evening in police custody.
Appu's lawyer Purushothaman visited him today and told reporters later that he was co-operating in the interrogations. "He is keeping a 'clear mind' and is well. He is being provided medical facilities," the lawyer said, adding they would be filing a bail application before the sessions court but did not elaborate.
Earlier, one of the associates of Appu, who is also a Lawyer, said Appu was mainly questioned about the 12 visits he had paid to the Kanchi Mutt, a month before Sankararaman's murder on September 3.
Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, who was arrested on November 11, has been cited as prime accused in the murder.
Meanwhile, police who are also investigating the various charges levelled by Sankararaman in his letters, today summoned Anjaneya Sarma, chief teacher of a 'Vedha Patasala' at Thenali in Andhra Pradesh, through phone, to appear for questioning.
This was with reference to the case of Iyappa Sarma, who was a scholar at the Patasala, and used to come to Kanchi Mutt frequently. During one such visit, he had gone for swimming in a temple tank with friends, and later his body was found in the tank's sand bed.
