Pak court cancels bail, Zardari re-arrested Tuesday, December 21 2004 15:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was re-arrested today (Dec 21, 2004), a month after his release on bail following eight years of imprisonment, in connection with a murder case.
Zardari was arrested when he reached Islamabad by air from Karachi after an anti-terrorism court in the port city withdrew the bail given to him earlier in the case of a murder of a judge and his son, local TV channels reported.
He was arrested soon after he alighted from the plane and was whisked away by a team of police commandoes amidst slogan shouting by his supporters, who had gathered in large number outside the airport, to welcome him.
The Karachi court's order of his arrest had come when Zardari was travelling by the plane.
In a related development, the Sindh High Court has transferred the anti-terrorism court's judge, Peer Ali Shah, who had issued the non-bailable arrest warrant against Bhutto's husband, local TV reports said.
