'First-ever Joint Defence Services doctrine planned' Thursday, December 23 2004 18:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The three Defence Services are planning to come out with the first-ever joint services doctrine aimed at synergising their capabilities into an effective Force, Government told Lok Sabha today (Dec 23, 2004).
The doctrine, covering strategic military aspects, is being formulated by the Headquarters of Integrated Defence Staff (HQ-IDS) in consultation with the three Services, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.
He said the document will be based on the study of military history, principles of war, combat leadership and application of military power in the Indian scenario.
Network: Indian Navy has established various networks and can exchange information between the networked units or stations, Mukherjee said.
De-mining: As many as 48 civilians and 236 injured in landmine blasts between Jan 1, 2002 and November 30, 2004 in Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, States bordering Pakistan, he said.
Fencing: There is no proposal for permanent construction on Indo-Pak border, he said, adding 734 kms length of fence has been constructed by the Army along the Line of Control (LoC) at a cost of approximately Rs 315 crore.
HAL: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has supplied two Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) to Nepalese Army, he said.
Vigil: Co arms on the Indian coast by UNIDENT Coast Guard ships and aircraft have been tasked to interdict the suspected vessel, he said, adding Navy has also been alerted.
