Naxalites blast rail tracks, rail traffic in chaos Thursday, December 23 2004 09:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Gaya:
Naxalites blew up railway line in a stretch of one and a half metre near Gurupa station of Gaya-Koderma section of the East Central Railway in Bihar in the wee hours today (Dec 23, 2004), in the second attack on railway property in the State since yesterday (Dec 22, 2004).
Railway sources said that heavily armed CPI-Maoist (Communist Party of India) activists targeted the down line near the station and blasted it by detonating dynamites and bombs.
The blast caused disruption of long distance train movements as several trains including the New Delhi-Howrah and New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express remained stranded at Gaya station for a couple of hours, the sources said.
Rail engineers were engaged to repair the track to restore rail traffic.
Senior police officials were camping at the spot and raids were on in surrounding areas.
Suspected CPI (Maoist) activists yesterday set ablaze Karjara railway station on Gaya-Kiul section of the East Central Railway in Bihar. The Naxalites stormed the station in wee hours and burnt the windows. Documents and tickets were gutted as a result.
