Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan yesterday (Dec 22, 2004) sought enactment of a law for implementation of job reservation for SC and ST as also reservation in the private sector.
Paswan, who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with a delegation of SC and ST Ministers and MPs as also Chairman of National Commission for SCs and STs, Suraj Bhan in a memorandum sought withdrawal of Government order of July 2, 1997, which sought to restrict the promotion avenues of SCs and STs in Government service and take the necessary measures to expedite the Delimitation of seats in Parliament and Assemblies for SC and ST.
Besides Union ministers Lakshmi Panabaka and Namo Narain Meena, the delegation included MPs from all parties E Punuswamy of PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi), Ram Nath Kovind of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), Krishna Tirath of Congress and M Jagannath of TDP (Telugu Desam Party), according to a release.
The delegation said that the law for the implementation of job reservation for SC and ST should be stringent with punitive action against those not implementing the reservation policy.
