Santa is 26 feet tall, 8 feet wide this Christmas!

Udupi: Seeking to find a slot in the Limca Book of Records, a man in Udupi is all set to make a giant Santa Claus figure using steel rods, cloth and dry grass.

Nityananda Olakad of Udupi Jilla Nagarika Samithi has ventured to make his bid by making a huge about 26 ft tall and 8 ft breadth figure of Santa Claus.

Olakad said no one had so far ventured to build such a tall figure of Santa Claus. 225 kgs of steel rod and about 150 mts of cloth was being used to make the figure of Santa Claus the work on which began today and would completed by evening tomorrow.

He had also planned to take this giant figure in a procession around Udupi city but is worried about the hanging live wires, poles and road dividers which could cause hurdles while carrying huge Santa Claus, he said.

He said that both the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Udupi have been invited verify his work for recommending to Limca book which would be kept open for public view on the eve of Christmas tomorrow at mother of sorrows church here till January 1. After Christmas festival, the statue would be shifted to Udupi Utsav grounds at Ajjarkad which would be kept there for a month period, he said.
