Tehelka expose: Guj Cong to probe Shrivastav's role Friday, December 24 2004 21:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
The Gujarat Congress today (Dec 24, 2004) said that it would 'probe' into the alleged role of its Vadodara Councillor Chandrakant Shrivastav alias Bhattu in connection with the 'Tehelka' newspaper expose in which he purportedly talks about how he and his cousin, Madhu Shrivastav, a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA, bribed Zaheera Sheikh to lie in court in the Best Bakery case.
"His (Chandrakant Shrivastav) role will definitely be probed into. I have yet to see the CD to have a clear picture of the entire incident myself. However an explanation was sought from him today and in a fax reply he said that the allegations were completely false," Gujarat Congress president B K Ghadvi said.
To a question if the Gujarat Congress was satisfied with Shrivastav's reply as he is both seen and heard in the CD discussing Zaheera and the money paid to her, Ghadvi said, "It will be probed into in detail. However, he is innocent till proven guilty."
He said he will make a personal visit to Vadodara in the coming days to meet Chandrakant Shrivastav on the issue.
