Kolkata: A mob lynched seven dacoits after overpowering them inside a passenger bus near Gopalnagar in West Bengal's North 24-parganas district today (Dec 25, 2004) police said.

The dacoits, all armed, boarded a Bongaon-Chakda route bus at Kadamtala and started looting by firing four rounds when the passengers raised alarm.

Police said locals stopped the bus, caught the dacoits, dragged them out and started beating them up after snatching their firearms.

While five dacoits died on spot, two others succumbed to their injuries at Bongaon hospital. Police rushed to the spot and seized one firearm and four rounds of ammunition.
