'Anushashan' possible if eyes on goals: Jaswant Saturday, December 25 2004 15:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
In the midst of talk of battle for supremacy among BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) second line of leadership, senior party leader Jaswant Singh today (Dec 25, 2004) said that there could be "self-control" in the organisation only if party members set their eyes on the larger goal of developing the country.
"One has to understand the difference between 'anushashan' (self-control) and discipline. While 'anushashan' comes from within, discipline has to be imposed from outside," Singh said while inaugurating the national executive meeting of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha in New Delhi.
"There will be 'anushashan' only when we set our eyes on our larger goals - that of taking the country forward on the path to progress," the former Union Minister added.
Differences among the second line of leadership in the party had culminated in former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti openly defying BJP president L K Advani, leading to her suspension from the party in November, though the decision was revoked yesterday (Dec 24, 2004).
In an apparent bid to bring about a rapprochement among the second rung, Advani had made the younger leaders M Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley announce his decision to revoke Uma's suspension.
