Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh High Court has rejected a representation moved by NGOs opposing former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao's cremation on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake, which it said was violation of High Court's earlier decision.

Environmental NGOs moved a house motion before Chief Justice Devendra Gupta through a fax on Friday (Dec 24, 2004) being vacations in the court, stated that Government's decision about selecting the site of the cremation was violation of earlier High Court judgement on public cremation and protecting Hussain Sagar.

The NGOs also in a letter to the State Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy opposed the Government's decision. The Chief Justice rejected the representation and cleared way for former Prime Minister's cremation.

The Chief Minister justified the decision stating that "it was in no way violation of law. The Government has to abide by law and will abide by law," and further added that "People should also realise the stature of the persons and his contribution to the nation and State in particular, official sources said.
