Atomic power station safe, unit 2 shut down: NPCIL

Mumbai: The Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) at Kalpakkam near Chennai is safe and the unit two of the plant, which was hit by the tidal waves after the tremors in coastal areas, was brought to safe shut down this morning (Dec 26, 2004), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) said in Mumbai.

"The unit two, which was operating at 210 MW, was brought to safe shut down," NPCIL sources told reporters in Mumbai.
