Vijayawada (AP): Panic gripped people in and around Vijayawada after certain areas experienced mild tremors at 6:45 hrs (IST) this morning (Dec 26, 2004).

People from Bharathinagar, Ayodhyanagar, Mogalrajpuram, Satyanarayanapuram, Gandhinagar, Kanuruand and Patamata apart from the areas in and around Vijayawada experienced vibrations for few seconds, prompting them to rush out of their houses, official sources said in Vijayawada.

The tremors were also felt in entire Andhra Pradesh coast, the sources said adding, however, so far that there were no reports of damage of any kind.

At least 15 people went missing in Pattinapakkam and Thirvattriyur areas near Chennai as tremors shook southern and eastern parts of the country this morning following a massive earthquake measuring over 8 on Richter scale in Indonesia, triggering tidal waves and flooding parts of coastal India.
