Appu remanded to judicial custody till January 3 Monday, December 27 2004 12:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kancheepuram:
Appu alias Krishnasamy, an accused in the Sankararaman Murder Case, in which Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi is the main accused, was today (Dec 27, 2004) remanded to judicial custody till January 3, 2005, after being held in police custody from December 20.
Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I, G Uthamaraja, who remanded him to judicial custody, had on December 20 placed him in police custody for three days and extended the police remand till today on an application filed by the police.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate turned down a plea by advocates representing Appu for providing him first class treatment, on the ground that the CrPC does not provide any such power to direct jail authorities to give him the facility.
Appu, who was arrested on December 19 in Andhra Pradesh, has been accused of arranging the persons who murdered Sankararaman, a temple official, on September 3.
Appu's advocates later told reporters outside the court that he had informed them that he had not made any statement to the police so there was nothing to retract.
Appu had told the police that he had nothing to do with the murder, the lawyers said.
