Tidal waves lash AP claim 73; 1,200 still missing

Hyderabad: Tidal waves that lashed coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh yesterday (Dec 26, 2004) has claimed 73 lives while 1,200 persons were still missing in coastal villages, according to official sources in Hyderabad today (Dec 27, 2004).

However, according to unconfirmed reports the toll has increased to 104.

Spotlight: Tidal Waves hit South Asia

Six coastal districts of Nlllore, Prakasham, Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari and East Godavari were hit by Tsumani waves triggered by a powerful earthquake in Indonesia.

Over 22,000 people have been evacuated to safer places in the six coastal districts, sources added.
