Guj announces Rs 10 crore package for 5 States Monday, December 27 2004 17:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Gujarat Government today (Dec 27, 2004) announced a relief package of Rs 10 crore for the five States that have been affected by the earthquake and Tsunami that struck the coastal towns of South India yesterday (Dec 26, 2004) killing thousands in India alone.
Announcing the break-up of the package from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that Rs five crore will be given to Tamil Nadu, Rs two crore to Andaman and Nicobar and Rs one crore each for the States of Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry and Orissa, official sources said in Ahmedabad.
Moreover, around 50 metric tonnes of immediate relief packages comprising food, clothing, blankets and tents would leave tonight from Bhuj town of Kutch district to Chennai, sources added.
The State Government had yesterday announced assistance from the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) to all the affected States as well as Sri Lanka.
