Coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh alerted: Govt

Hyderabad: Amidst fresh warning of another Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, Andhra Pradesh Government today (Dec 30, 2004) alerted the administration in the coastal districts and asked the officials to be prepared for possible evacuation of people from vulnerable low-lying areas.

Spotlight: Tidal Waves hit South Asia

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy reviewed the situation in the wake of Union Home Ministry's alert message warning of a possible tsunami developing in the Indian Ocean.

The authorities in coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Nellore, West Godavari, East Godavari, Prakasam, Krishna and Guntur have been asked to be vigilant and be ready for possible evacuation exercise, officials said in Hyderabad today.
