Alert sounded as fresh strike feared on Kerala coast Thursday, December 30 2004 12:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Thiruvananthapuram:
Fearing a fresh tidal onslaught along Kerala coast by this noon, the Government sounded alert asking the people living within two kms from the Sea to move away from the shore.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the warning was being issued on the basis of information from the Army, which was also confirmed by the Central Home Ministry.
While the administration has been geared up to meet any eventuality, in all places people on their own began to move away from the coastal areas.
He said the information from the Central agencies was that the State could suffer yet another 'shock' and sea could turn turbulent.
Chandy said the alert was being sounded not to create panic but to tell the people to remain vigilant as the state was yet to recover from the shock and grief of Sunday's tsunami strike.
