K'taka seeks 'classical language' status for Kannada

Bangalore: Following the footprints of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka today (Dec 30, 2004) requested the Centre to grant its official language, Kannada-- the status of classical language.

The State Cabinet that met in Bangalore today also decided to appeal to the Centre to include Kodava language under the eighth schedule of the constitution, Minister for Information B Shivaram said at a press conference in Bangalore.

He said the Chief Minister would lead a delegation next month to New Delhi to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek his intervention on the State's demand.
