Safety, modernisation priority of Railways: Laloo

Bankura: Railways Minister Laloo Prasad today (Dec 30, 2004) said that safety and modernisation were the high priority of the railways agenda.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Bankura- Chhatna -Mukutmanipur railway line and inauguration of train services in Howrah-Amta and Contai -Digha sections in Bankura, Prasad that the railways would spend Rs 7840 crores on various projects across the country.

Despite not hiking passenger fares and freight rates, Indian railways had been able to earn enough revenue by stopping under-voicing of freight carried by the system, Prasad said.
