PM begins tour of Tsunami-hit areas in Tamil Nadu

Thiruvananthapuram: Beginning his visit of the tsunami-hit areas of the South, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left Thiruvananthapuram this morning (Dec 30, 2004) for Colachal in Tamil Nadu.

The Prime Minister who left for Colachal by road will be back in the State capital in the afternoon and head for Trichy in Tamil Nadu by air on his way to Karaikkal in Pondicherry and Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.

Manmohan Singh had arrived in Thiruvananthapuram last night accompanied by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran and Minister in Prime Minister's office Prithviraj Chouhan.

The Prime Minister is expected to visit tsunami-hit areas of Kerala tomorrow (Dec 31, 2004).

On winding up Tamil Nadu tour, he would back here in the evening and hold discussion with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on the impact of the tragedy in the State, official sources said.
