Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Dec 30, 2004) visited a relief camp at St Mary's higher secondary school at the tsunami-ravaged Kolachal area in Kanyakumari district.
Sharing the grief of the affected, the Prime Minister said the Centre would give special care to women and children hit by the tragedy.
He said the Government was committed to provide all help to those who had lost everything in the disaster. "Life can not be compensated. But the Government would do whatever humanly possible to restart the life with self-respect. I have come here to offer assistance and share your grief," he said.
In a chat with journalists, he said the Centre had already announced Rs 500 crore for the affected States.
