Chennai: An aftershock was felt by citizens in various parts of the city, this afternoon (Jan 4, 2005).

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) sources in Chennai confirmed that an aftershock had been recorded around 14:37 hrs (IST) and they were now trying to work out the details of the intensity.

A similar aftershock was felt on December 28, 2004 after the December 26 tremor, which was followed by Tsunami tidal waves, which killed thousands of people and destroyed properties in the coastal region of the State.
