Indo-Pak joint collaboration on biotechnology Tuesday, January 4 2005 22:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Chairman of Pakistan's National Commission on Biotechnology Anwar Nasim today (Jan 4, 2005) mooted a joint collaboration between India and Pakistan in the field of biotechnology.
"I have met the Chairman of India's National Commission on Farmers M S Swaminathan and suggested the idea to hold a meet on biotechnology at Lahore," Anwar told reporters on the sidelines of the 92nd Indian Science Congress in Ahmedabad.
Anwar is part of the four-member delegation which will be presenting three papers in the ongoing 92nd Indian Science Congress.
"This would go a long way to help both the countries as both have similar problems in food and agriculture," he said adding, since the relations between both the countries are improving, a meet on biotechnology will benefit the neighbours.
Asked what could Pakistan contribute in this field, Nasim said at present India is much ahead of Pakistan in the field but a collaborative approach would be mutually good.
