Baghdad:
A truck bombing today (Jan 4, 2005) outside a special Iraqi forces command post in western Baghdad killed 10 people, eight of them policemen, and wounded 56, a source said at the interior ministry.
The source added that the vehicle used in the bombing was a tanker rigged with explosives.
One witness, Abu Maiss, said that the vehicle slammed into the gates of the base of the elite commando division and hit a car, before bursting into flames.
The explosion was not far from the fortress-like Green Zone, home to the US embassy and the interim Iraqi Government.
The attack was the third car bombing against figures associated with US-led forces or Iraqi security or political figures in Baghdad in the space of two days.
