Pappu's sister uses gun licence to get mobile phone Tuesday, January 4 2005 16:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The mobile phone used by RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) MP Pappu Yadav to allegedly call VVIPs from inside the Beur Jail belonged to his sister who was given the connection after she furnished her gun licence for identification purpose, the Supreme Court was told today (Jan 4, 2005).
Reliance Infocomm's counsel Harish Salve stated this before a Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha, who were weighing the idea of placing jammers in all prisons across the country to disable cell phone usage by criminals and inmates.
Salve said that Reliance Infocomm after checking the records has found that of the two mobile phones used by Yadav, one was in the name of his sister.
"If the sister shows the gun licence issued to her by the Bihar Government as the document for the purpose of identification, then such an authentic document could not be questioned," he said.
The other phone was the subject matter of the alleged calls made for the purpose of extortion, an issue, which was pending before the Patna High Court, he said.
The apex Court said that it would not go into the issue relating to extortion.
