Three of the four helplines are being set up the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in Tamil Nadu at Nagapattinam, Salem and Kanya Kumari while one helpline will be set up in Pondicherry, an official release said in New Delhi.
The existing helpline in Chennai will be strengthened and the Ministry has allowed the NGO 'Prayas' to explore the possibility of setting up child helpline and crisis intervention programme in Port Blair.
"The child helpline, a toll free telephone service available round-the-clock, will respond to the emergency needs of children in distress," the Ministry said in the release.
Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar is visiting tsunami-affected areas from today and during the three-day visit, she will tour Chennai, Pondicherry, Cuddalore and Port Blair.
