Chennai: AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) MLA K Sudarsanam was shot dead and his son injured after a six-member gang attacked them at their residence in Tiruvallur and escaped with jewellery and cash at around 2.30 this morning, police said.

The MLA represented Gumidipoondi in Tiruvallur district.

Police said that the MLA was shot dead after he came out of his house, apparently on hearing some noise outside.

The gang then attacked and injured Satish, the MLA's son and locked him in a room before decamping with the cash and jewellery.

Senior police officers, including the Inspector General of Police, R Jangid, have rushed to the spot and commenced investigations.
