Tsunami: Schools to reopen tomorrow in Nagapattinam
Sunday, January 9 2005 13:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Nagapattinam: Two weeks after the Tsunami changed the course of their lives, hundreds of students return to schools in Nagapattinam tomorrow (Jan 10, 2005).

But, for the 200-odd students at the Government High School, Arcottuthurai, about 40 kms from Nagapattinam, getting back to the school will take a much longer time.

Spotlight: Tidal Waves hit South Asia

The killer waves have not only caused massive damage to the school building, but also taken away key documents like the students records, registers and certificates.

"We are recreating the students records at the Arcottuthurai School. It will take some more time for the school to start functioning," said G Arogyaswamy, the chief educational officer, Nagapattinam.
