Stamp scam: Karnataka assures full support to CBI Tuesday, January 11 2005 15:03 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
A day after the Supreme Court asked Karnataka to consider within four weeks the CBI request seeking sanction for prosecution of top Government and police officials accused in the multi-crore Telgi fake stamp paper scam, Chief Minister N Dharam Singh assured the State's "fullest cooperation" to the central agency.
Officials have been asked to look into the request and take appropriate action, Singh told reporters on the sidelines of the Conference of Education ministers and Technical Education Ministers in Bangalore.
"There is no question of hiding anything. Karnataka has been cooperating with CBI in the investigations", Singh said while asserting that the Government had no intention to shield anyone however big he was.
The CBI has sought certain clarifications and it was being furnished, Singh said.
The Apex Court yesterday (Jan 10, 2005) also directed Maharashtra to consider CBI's request for sanction to prosecute officials allegedly involved in the inter-state scam.
Karnataka disbanded its special investigation team, STAMPIT, and handed over the fake stamp paper scam to CBI for probe under a directive from the Supreme Court last year.
