New Delhi:
Pakistan's National Security Adviser (NSA) Tariq Aziz had meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh in New Delhi on Monday (Jan 10, 2005).
An External Affairs Ministry spokesman however did not give details of what transpired at his separate meetings with the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister.
The spokesman was replying to questions whether there was any back channel diplomacy during Aziz's trip ahead of the External Affairs Minister's visit to Islamabad next month.
Asked if the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation) Summit, which was to be held in Dhaka but postponed due to Tsunami disaster figured in Aziz's discussions with the Indian leaders, the spokesman said, "I do not have details of what happened during the two calls."
The Indian Prime Minister and his Pakistani counterpart Shaukat Aziz are expected to meet on the sidelines of the summit when it takes place.
Aziz "paid a brief visit to New Delhi (yesterday) to offer condolences on behalf of President Pervez Musharraf on the passing away of J N Dixit, National Security Adviser," External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.
Aziz went to Dixit's residence to personally express condolences to his wife Annapurna.
