New world body needed to bring peace, says Kalam Wednesday, January 12 2005 22:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Pointing out that two "major unilateral wars" have taken place in spite of the United Nations, President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Jan 12, 2005) said a "new world body" was needed to bring peace among nations.
"The United Nations was established in 1945 after the Second World War with the mission of bringing peace among nations and resolving conflicts as they arise so that war will not be waged between nation to nation.
"What the world has witnessed today is that two major unilateral wars have taken place in spite of United Nations," Kalam said addressing a gathering at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.
"Hence we need a world body which can facilitate bringing peace, prosperity and knowledge to the nations, irrespective of the economic status of a particular nation," he said.
Kalam said, "The vision of the new world body has to be facilitating evolution of enlightened citizens in the planet."
Opining that the evolution of enlightened human beings was a big challenge for world community, he said this requires "education with value system, religions graduating into spiritual force to bring universal brotherhood and poverty eradication by attaining economic prosperity through a national vision.
