Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, today (Jan 12, 2005) attended the last rites of his mother amidst tight security.
Telgi along with his brother Azeem and nephews Tabrez and Parvez was brought here from Yerawada jail in Pune after a court permitted him to attend the last rites of Sharifibi who died in Belgaum after a prolonged illness on Jan 10, police said.
The three were taken to their residence in the noon to fulfil the last religious rites. Only close relatives were allowed at the residence, police said.
After the burial, Telgi and the others were taken back to Pune, police added.
The Special MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Criminal Acts) court yesterday allowed Telgi, his brother and nephews, also accused in the stamp scandal who are in judicial custody at Yerawada Central jail, to take part in the last rites of Telgi's mother.
