Chennai: The president of Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), C P Radhakrishnan and 50 others were today (Jan 12, 2005) taken into custody in Chennai when they attempted to hold a demonstration, in support of Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi and condemning the arrest of the junior Acharya Vijayendra Saraswathi.

Police said that they were taken into custody for violating prohibitory orders.

Police said that permission, which was sought by the BJP only yesterday (Jan 11, 2005), had been rejected.
